Frequently asked questions

Got questions? I’ve got answers.

  • My office, and surrounding outdoor areas where in-person sessions occur, are all located on the unceded ancestral land of the Hinono’ei (Arapaho), Tsistsistas or Tsétsėhéstȧhese (Cheyenne) and Núuchiu (Ute) people–now known as Golden, Colorado. I am also licensed to provide therapy online for clients who are physically present at the time of session anywhere in Colorado, Massachusetts, or Florida.

  • Yes! My office is currently located on the first floor of a building that has wheelchair accessible entrances and restrooms. When we meet outdoors, we will have access to paved trails that are maintained by the city and county in all kinds of weather.

  • I offer 90-minute sessions at a rate of $450. Any additional scheduled session time beyond 90 minutes will be charged at $300 per 60 minutes.

Note: During your first session, we will come up with a plan together  to determine the length and frequency of sessions moving forward. Most clients choose to schedule weekly 90 min sessions ($450 each session), but I also offer options for half-day, full-day, and multi-day intensives (see rates for intensives here).

  • My practice is fully private pay—I don’t accept any health insurance directly.

If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a receipt (called a “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance company. Depending on your plan, this might go toward your deductible or even qualify for reimbursement. The superbill will include everything your insurance needs, like a diagnosis and procedure codes.

You can also use HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards to pay for your sessions.

If you have further questions about how to find out if you have out-of-network benefits and how to use these benefits to help ease the costs of paying for therapy, please let me know. I  want therapy to be a space where you feel empowered to prioritize yourself and your well-being, and I’m always happy to help you explore what works best for you.

  • A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a document that provides you with a clear breakdown of the expected costs of your therapy sessions. It is part of the No Surprises Act, designed to help clients better understand and plan for the financial aspects of their care.

As a self-pay client (not using insurance), you have the right to receive a GFE that outlines:

    • The cost of your therapy sessions.

    • An estimate of how frequently we might meet based on your needs and goals.

    • The total estimated cost of care over a specified period of time.

This estimate is not a binding contract; it’s a tool to give you transparency and help you make informed financial decisions about therapy. Of course, the actual cost of your care may vary depending on changes in the frequency or duration of sessions, or if new goals are identified.

The following will also be provided to you in document form when you complete your intake as a new client:

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Susannah M Horwitz, LLC  is not in-network with any health insurance plans and is therefore considered out-of-network. This means the provider or facility does not have an agreement with your plan to provide services.

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

If you have any questions about the GFE or would like to discuss it further, my intake coordinator will be happy to walk you through it.

  • I have a rescheduling-only policy for cancellations or missed sessions. Once an appointment is scheduled, payment is expected for that time. You can contact my office by email or phone (with at least 24 hours’ notice) to discuss rescheduling options.

    Here’s how it works:

    • Attendance Policy: When scheduling your first session, you’ll receive an Attendance Policy document, which provides detailed information about rescheduling options and guidelines.

    • Payment Schedule: Clients are charged at the beginning of the week for any sessions scheduled that week. New clients or those scheduling intensives will pay for the first session (or a deposit for intensives) at the time of scheduling to secure their appointment.

    • Rescheduling Fees: If you reschedule within the designated time frame outlined in the Attendance Policy, the fee for your original session will apply to the rescheduled session. If you cannot reschedule, the original session fee will serve as a cancellation fee.

    • Insurance Note: Insurance companies do not provide out-of-network reimbursement for cancelled sessions.

  • The length of time you spend in therapy really depends on your goals, needs, and preferences. Some people come to work through a specific challenge and may feel ready to wrap up after just a few months. Others see therapy as an ongoing space for personal growth and may choose to continue for a longer period.

During our work together, we’ll regularly check in about how therapy is going and adjust the approach as needed. If you’re unsure where to start, we will discuss your goals during the both the consultation call and then again during your first 90 min session and decide which approach might be the best fit for you.

  • Schedule a free consultation by clicking here. You’ll connect with my intake coordinator for a 20-minute call, where you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you have and schedule your first 90 min therapy appointment if you’re ready to get started. If you’d like to speak with me before scheduling, my coordinator can set up an additional 10-minute call where we can chat.

  • On the occasion that you need to reach me between sessions about scheduling, payment, or other administrative needs, you may email my office assistant at hello@susannahhorwitz.com or call my office phone number and leave a detailed message. My office phone number will be provided to you when you schedule your first session.  It will usually be shorter, but the response time could take up to 48 hours.

Please note that I do not provide on-call crisis services but will always support you with connecting to crisis services as needed.  If you are located in Colorado, you can call the Colorado Crisis Services line at 1-884-493-TALK or text “TALK” to 38255 for free confidential support from a licensed counselor 24 hours a day/7 days a week.  If you are located in Massachusetts, you can call or text the free confidential Massachusetts Behavioral Health Helpline at 833-773-2445. If you are located in Florida, or anywhere else in the United States (including Colorado and Massachusetts) you can also call or text  988 for the National Suicide & Crisis Line.

If you have an immediate emergency that cannot wait for a call back, please call 911 or take yourself to the nearest hospital emergency room and ask to see a psychiatrist.
